What paint protection film actually does

Car paint protection film can add more depth and gloss to a glossy car, or turn it into stealth mode with a satin film.

It also absorbs the things that wreck a finish over time: stone chips on the freeway, car-park scratches, bug acid and road grime, so the paint underneath stays exactly as it left the factory. It is not a magic shield, and we will always be straight with you about that. The result comes down to the film and the hands applying it.

Frequently asked questions

Does PPF go yellow over time?

The older films did, and from experience it comes down to the raw materials and the glues used. That is why we are very selective with the film we use. The films we install today are engineered not to yellow under UV.

Can PPF be removed without damaging the paint?

Most of the time, yes, on factory-finished paint. On resprayed panels there is no guarantee. Factory paint goes through a special electro process that bonds it to the chassis, and a spray shop cannot replicate that, so resprayed paint does not hold as well. There is a chance the film might pull it off during removal, so we are upfront about that before we start.

Does PPF really self-heal?

Yes. Light swirls and fine scratches disappear with heat from the sun or warm water. Deeper cuts are a different story, but that is what the film is meant to do: take the brunt of the trauma and leave your paint unscathed.

How long does PPF last?

Anywhere from 5 to 12 years depending on the film you choose, and often longer with proper care.

Does PPF need a coating applied on top?

It depends on the film. Some films already have superior hydrophobic properties built in, while others do need a coating on top to get that water-beading, easy-clean finish. This is why choosing the right PPF from the start matters, the right film can save you money from the get go.
